I'm unable to make sense of the cause of death on ggg grandma's death certificate. Gas .....?
Her death was registered D1870 and she was 42 years old. She had given birth to a daughter earlier that year whose birth and death were registered M1870.

Ah, I was thinking it was two words. Certainly better than what I have come up with so far - googling Gas bu*, I got gas bubble disease which is apparently decompression sickness! Seemed unlikely.

Jnomad,
I have just looked at the whole pdf and the dots above the letter i are very high up - higher than the highest point of the tall letters. So there could well be a few dots above that we can't see which would make it look a lot more like gastritis.
Thank you
Brie
