Ellen Elizabeth Dill-Macky
« on: Thursday 07 December 23 14:02 GMT (UK) »
Mrs Dill-Macky, born in Ireland 1857, emigrated to Australia with her husband, Presbyterian minister Rev William Marcus Dill-Macky, in 1886.  He died at a daughter's home in Neutral Bay, NSW, 1913.  Ellen died in 1925 at a place called "Lisgar", Pennant Hills Road, Parramatta/North Parramatta, NSW.  Earlier in 1913, before William died, both Dill-Mackys were living at Woodford, NSW.  I cannot find any addresses for Ellen since then, except for "Lisgar" from her death/funeral notice.  I have looked up all the "Lisgar"s I could find but found none in or around Parramatta.  😏   I am not related to this family but would like to find out about the address where she died as I now have information that it was the same address where my parents were living in 1939-1940. I'd be grateful for any information about her address/es between 1913 and 1925, and/or anything about a "Lisgar" from at least 1925 to 1940.  Many thanks, Alice 😀

You ladies are amazing!  You have given me the information I was looking for plus!  Thank you so very much. 😀  I have no idea why my parents were living there.  My Dad was Peter Jeffrey White, a labourer, and Mum was Mary Euphemia.  They married in June 1938.  I do know Mum was a domestic at the Kings School for a while around that time. I can now try to follow-up your information, which I'm so excited to get.  Again, thank you both.  Alice 😁

Her husband George had recently died and his father Captain Scott is mentioned as living at 'Lisgar' in the 1870s so perhaps there were various houses built there or the son named his house after the earlier one.  The brick house (116 Pennant Hills Road) on street view is said to be 'renovated art deco' by current real estate agents so it is a possibility.

Perhaps they took it boarders?

Hi Debbie,  Thank you for the details re "Lisgar".  I see the street number is 116.  Didn't know that. That is really helpful! My thought - like yours - was that they may have boarded.  I'll will be able to do more now on that part of my Family Tree.  😀 By your user name I presume you have some Scottish heritage...?  So have I, my birth father, Peter White, was born in Paisley.  We belong to the Lamont Clan originally from Bute Island.  Thanks again for your help with my query. Hi... Thanks much for your reply and offer to help but I'm not on Facebook.  I really only wanted to find out where "Lisgar" was and what kind of place it was. I knew it was in Pennant Hills Road, North Parramatta,  but because I'm still pretty much a novice at this, I couldn't find anything in the area.  My parents were living there when I was born in December, 1939.  Yep..I turn 84 in a couple of days! 😄  I also know they were still there in August, 1940, but don't know when they left.  They bought a house in Regents Park in April, 1941.  I found out that Mrs Dill-Macky died at that address in 1925 so I thought I'd try that angle... it worked!  I did check that family but all their children are now gone and I had no other resource.  I've received a lot of help regarding my request but if you can add anything I'd be very grateful.  Regards, Alice
