finding an 1860s will
« on: Tuesday 26 December 23 11:20 GMT (UK) »
I have worked through family history over the years (county archives, elderly relatives, background reading &c &c) and have just started to think more about wills, but I have no idea how to find the actual text of a will. Here would be, maybe, the best for me to begin: death 1866 in Pontypool, probate 15.1.1867, 'principal registry', Thomas Gamieson/Gameson (both spellings given), 'effects under £200'.
Young, Gameson, Miles, Williamson, Cramond

Order from here
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/

Create an account and log in
Search on Last NameGamieson, Year of Death1867 (even though it’s wrong!).
Don’t enter First name or any other information, because the entry has been wrongly indexed.
Click Save and Continue
On the Advanced Search page, don’t enter anything.
Click Save and Continue
Click the link to Open Image and Document Order Form
Fill in the name and dates exactly as printed, noting the Folio number is 30.
(If you make a mistake they won’t send the will and they won’t refund your money.)
Pay £1.50

They will email you a link to download the will and grant in a few days’ time (allowing for the holidays).
