Small update on my ancestor Phoebe Johnson who was baptised 4 October 1807 in Rochford, illegitimate daughter of Sophia Johnson. Sophia was born and raised in Rochford. She married Samuel Coote in January 1809 in Rochford and he is subject to a settlement examination later in the year when he said he has now married, but interestingly he was said to have been in service at Rochford Hall in 1806. Never found any bastardy bonds for baby Phoebe so cannot be sure Samuel Coote was her father but it is possible, seeing as he was in service. Phoebe never took his surname when her mother married.
