Philip Clapp in Missouri
« on: Sunday 11 September 05 03:06 BST (UK) »
Hello

Looking for information on the descendents of my gr-gr-grandfather Philip Clapp 1824-1906
married 2nd Maria 1838-1912. Immigrated from Hastings Co. Ont to Monroe Co, Missouri  in 1880. Known Children - Charles, William, Herbert & Ethel. Philip was married 1rst to Ruth 1826-1869, children Samantha, John, William, James (all remained in Ont) & Mary. Mary appears in the 1880 US Census for Monroe Co., age 15, most likely she married by 1890. Anyone know of this family??

Thanks
Caseyjo

Hello Casey
I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for, but found the following:

1857 Directory of Province of Ontario, Page 107

CLAPP
Cornelius, Melville, R Edw'd, HP
Gilbert, Napanee, Lennox, JP, Surveyor, Clerk of Div. Court
James, Milford, R Edw'd, grist and sawmill
Phillip, Milford, R Edw'd, grist and sawmill
Phillip, Stirling, Hastings, miller
Thomas, Ottowa, Carleton, Cabinet Maker, Rideau Street.

There are 2 Phillip Clapp's mentioned in 1871 Ontario census.
One is age 44, living Northumberland E, sub Cramahe
One is age 46, living Hastings E, sub Thurlow.

Can provide more specifics on the census, if you need it.

Regards,
Valerie

Bayley, Dorset, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cheshire and others.
Antrobus, Somerset/Glouster
Skelton, Heslington, Yorkshire

Gravett/Grevet, Surrey
Also searching the above in Australia

Valerie

Thank you very much for the info.  What I am really looking for is what happened to the family after they left Ontario & went to Missouri.
No one seems to know, other than a few census records from the US Census & a few cemetery records that puts them in Monroe Co., not much else is known about them or their descendents.
Would really like to make contact or find out what happened to them.

Thank you Caseyjo

There is quite a lot of info here and some good links.

Hi Pat

Thank you for the census records.  I have gotten a couple obituaries in the mail and they have some new leads & locations on them so I will try those next. I have been to the Monroe County site, it is a great site and have my information posted there as well.

Thank you
Caseyjo
