Help with burial record please
« on: Tuesday 06 February 24 10:44 GMT (UK) »
The middle entry on this extract is the burial record of my husband's 4xgreat grandfather George Clayton. The part up to 94 yrs is clear, then it looks like "upon his wife" then maybe something about "Hugh" but I've no idea. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

I think it really does say "upon his wife" ie in the same grave as her and then "foot of Hugh  ???" explaining where the grave is. I can't decipher the word after Hugh but maybe someone else will be able to.

Thanks for that. I've found George's wedding record (and burial obviously) and two census. I haven't come across a Hugh as yet.

I think it could be foot of Hugh xxx stone, so just an indication of where the plot was. It wouldn't mean that Hugh was any kind of relation. (I can't read his surname.)
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Yes Arthur I can see stone at the end now, so would agree with it being Hugh ......'s stone - I still can't decipher what comes before but his surname may begin with a P :-\

Thank you for your help. You deciphered more words than I had.
