Grandad
« on: Thursday 15 February 24 17:32 GMT (UK) »
My grandad was telling me about his family but hardly knew anything about them. All the information I can give you about them is this.

Thomas seddon who is now Howarth
Birth June 1942 (don’t know what day) his father was Thomas seddon he had a aunti Doreen seddon, and Gladys seddon who was his mother. And also he had an uncle named Bill who was in the war. WW2

Hope any of this can hopeful find a trace of his family. All I’m looking for find is where they lived, their married and jobs and any war records

Hello I’m afraid we aren’t allowed to name or discuss any living person so if any of those mentioned are still alive or might be their names should be taken out.

Any idea as to why two surnames for the first person?

Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

You have posted on the Beginners board so given no clue as to where he was born??  There is also insufficient info given about his background.

If he is still alive - Rootschat has a strict no living persons policy to protect their privacy - info posted on RC can be viewed in the public domain

If his name is now Howarth - why?  Was he adopted??

If he was adopted - has he applied for his adoption papers?

www.freebmd.org.uk has no birth under Seddon June/Sept qtrs 1942

If your grandfather is still alive he must know his birthdate or have a copy of his birth cert

Have you tried searching for those people here, if you know an area.

There is a 100 year rule, that prevents information being available, which also includes WW2 records. As he was born in 1942, his records will not be available until 2042, so the best route would be local newspapers.

There is a birth, for a Thomas Seddon in Jan-March 1942, which is before you say he was born, so maybe not him. If it is worth looking at his mother’s maiden name was Pendlebury, with the registration in Farnworth Volume 8c Page 653

The difficulty is, though, that the person born in 1942 is still alive, so those birth details should not be posted. That is, if we have understood this query.
The other names should be ok to search though, presumably.

Where is his birth cert?  You say his father was Thomas Seddon & his mother was Gladys Seddon which suggests they were married.

You say his aunt was Doreen Seddon which suggests she was either Thomas Seddon’s sister or his sister in law

Why the change of surname?

Thomas Leslie Seddon married Caroline Wilson 1930.  Together on 1939 register

Doreen married Arthur Gill in 1934

Realistically - we need more relevant info as we are perhaps in danger of confusing matters with supposition
