Street locations
« on: Sunday 31 March 24 21:04 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I have the birth details for a relative, and have been trying to find a map or details of the street they were born in.

Unfortunately, it looks like the street no longer exists, and I can't seem to find an old map or details of where the street would be.

The relative was born in the 1940's, in Fauldhouse, Scotland.

Any help or guidance as to where I might be able to locate old maps or details of streets in Fauldhouse around that time, would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

The National Library of Scotland has a lot of older maps.
Here is one for the area from 1922 but you can find others on the site.

Note this map was revised in 1914; war delayed publication.  See notes in the margin.

Click on "Show location", go to map finder where you can change the scale to 25-inch and find this, produced from the same survey but published 1916.

Change to 1:10,000-1:10,560, 1948-1973 series which brings up:

The revision diagram at the bottom shows the town itself was revised 1930-45, but the remainder pre-1930 - probably 1914.  Plus major changes to 1955.  This is a stop-gap revision which brings you closer to the date of 1940s.  New buildings are shown as hollow blocks whereas the next edition will show semis and detached buildings, also on the 1:2500 series from 1956.
