DOOGAN - Links to Donegal
« on: Saturday 06 April 24 12:59 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to trace birth records for my Great Grandfather - Daniel Doogan.  All we know is that he was born in Ireland.

I know that from the 1901 Scotland Census he lived in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland and it puts him at age 28 so his birth would be around 1873.  He married Margaret (Maggie) Wiliamson in Leith 1895.

We know that the Doogan (with the double O) name either originates from or was common around Donegal and in particular in Kincasslagh.  I think that Daniel Doogan's parents were Henry Doogan and Elizabeth Queen or Quinn, most likely born in Ireland also.

My Grandfather, Simon Doogan was Daniel & Maggie's son, and they had 3 other (living) sons Henry (Harry), David and Joseph.

Can anyone help me find Irish birth records for Daniel and his parents.

Thank you.

MARK J SMITH

Good find, but his birth registered at Rathfriland. The townland says Letrim but is probably Leitrim, as you mention.

Actually it was put down as Leitrim in informant's column (although it looks as though the first 'i' was an afterthought)-
