I’ve found him in Ridley with his second wife but that’s all.

Could you please give the full details for this, year, name of second wife etc

Also you mention Ridley, they are several places of that name in the UK which one do you mean

You need to give more info re birthyears etc as we have know idea what timescale is involved

If your grandfather is deceased give his name and birthdate plus birthplace plus both his parents names & mothers maiden name if known

You have posted on the Beginners board so we have no clue as to which "Ridley" you are referring to.   There are places called Ridley in Cheshire/Kent/Northumberland & Denbighshire so as Rosie has said - which one?

Hi

I'm guessing that Sharper's Joe Jones is the singer who's included on this CD
https://www.mustrad.org.uk/articles/luck.htm

I also have some recordings of him made 1965-1967 by Stephen Sedley, when Joe was camped at Biggin Hill and gave his name as Joe Saunders. I'm 99% sure it's the same singer.
Stephen Sedley says "Joe’s caravan, which he shared with his grown-up daughter Liza, was stationed on farmland on Biggin Hill with the agreement of a friendly farmer. Joe wouldn’t sing a note without a quart of cider, but once this was provided he was unstoppable".
There's a mention of him on my folk song website Kent Trad at https://kenttrad.org/stephen-sedley
I haven't felt able to write up an article on Joe himself yet, as I've found it difficult to locate much information about him - possibly because he used several different surnames. Stephen Sedley mentioned that he sometimes went by the name of Ridley.

Now there's a Nelson Ridley who was recorded in the 1970s in Essex and features on this CD-ROM https://www.mustrad.org.uk/download/254.htm
You can download it for 2 quid from https://www.mustrad.org.uk/download/covers.htm - lots of tracks of Nelson singing on it.
I believe he was born 1913, died 1976. I had his parents as Alfred Smith and Louisa Jones, but that may be wrong.

I don't know if that's relevant or of any help.

If they are the people you're related to, I'd really like to hear back from you so I can do them justice on my website.

best wishes

Andy Turner
