Trying to find a report in a local paper 1835
« on: Monday 13 May 24 01:14 BST (UK) »
I am researching Francis Wetton who was tried at the Derbyshire Quarter sessions at Chesterfield in April 1835 for stealing money by false pretences.  He was transported for 7 years.
The National Archives summary (https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C12761411  ) states :
Annotated : This application prays  for the actual transportation of the prisoner on account of his notorious behaviour.  Correspondence: Letter from 33 inhabitants of Castle Donington, Leicestershire.  They state that the convict is of the most notorious character and a danger to society at large; as a clerk to several attorneys he has used forgery, false representation and unlawful means to reduce the families to poverty.
So my questions are - 1.  Why can I find no report of this case in local papers?  (I have searched long and hard via BNA)  and 2.  How come he only got 7 years ?

The OCR is picking up the Not Guilty from the item above, not his.  His last name is written as Whetton in the article.

If this is a close relative, you might have to pay for that TNA record to be digitised.
