Looking for McManus ties back to Ireland in 1700's
« on: Sunday 19 May 24 02:00 BST (UK) »
A reliable Edwin McManus obituary in 1911 in Randolph, NY, stated, "The McManus family emigrated from Scotland to the north of Ireland in the latter part of the 17th century and the great great grandfather of Edwin McManus in company with two brothers came to this country in the year 1720.  The great grandfather was born in Rahway, NJ, in 1737 and the grandfather in 1758."

The well-documented grandfather was:
Christopher McManus Sgt Maj (in the US Revolutionary War)
1758–1849
BIRTH 12 AUG 1758 • Rahway, Union, Somerset Co, New Jersey, USA
DEATH 14 JUN 1849 • Forestville, Chautauqua, New York, USA

We're looking to try to identify the great-grandfather (b 1737) and the great-great grandfather and his two brothers who arrived in the US in 1720.  (There is a name for Christopher's father in Ancestry but the birth date is wrong and other researchers also doubt it is correct.)

I realize that records that far back are a long shot but hoping someone can point me toward some possible resources for research, US or Ireland.  Thanks!
