Finding parents of Dora Galvin
« on: Sunday 19 May 24 02:45 BST (UK) »
Hello,
My gg grandmother's name was Dora Galvin. She emigrated to London and married my gg grandfather Frederick Walter West in 1908. They had two children Frederick West jr and my g grandfather John West. Frederick West died in 1918 in WWI and Dora died the same year. The two kids were aged 12 and 10, they were sent back to Ireland to live with their uncle or possibly grandfather Lawrence Galvin. On the  1911 UK census it lists Dora's birthplace as Conna, Ireland.
This is all the information I know about her. I have her birthdate listed as the 12 of December 1885 but I don't know where that came from. I cannot find a birth certificate or baptism record. I also cannot find any emigration records.
How can I find the names of her parents?

Her name is spelled JARVAN when she married.
On her 1st son's birth it is spelled as JARVIN, and on 2nd son is spelled GALVIN

The date of birth you have might have come from WW1 pension files.

The 1911 census has her born in Conna, County Cork.

Her marriage certificate should give you her father's name and profession.
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

On the marriage certificate I found it is only a list of names and where they are from. Would there be one with more information? They got married in London.
As for Javan/Jarvan, I'm not sure what that's about. My grandmother told me her surname was Galvin and in the WWI pension records it lists the childrens guardian as Lawrence Galvin but every other record lists her surname as Javan/Jarvan

Would there be parish records for the town of Conna?

This might be Lawrence Galvin in 1911. A widower with three children born Wales. Similar area to Conna.

I can see the youngest birth in Wales ( mother's maiden name Davis )

The application from Lawrence Galvin - brother in law and Guardian for the children requesting a replacement plaque as the previous paperwork etc. had been lost.

So Lawrence was Dora's brother.
