Ancestry DNA Matches Updated Display
« on: Wednesday 29 May 24 11:23 BST (UK) »
I see I have a beta version of this update for my matches today.

Assuming there are some glitches - does anyone else have a list of dna matches which have been linked to their tree so the round match symbol on the original list should have the small family tree icon.  Some of mine have and some haven't.

Is this the case for anyone else?  Are there any more glitches to be aware of?

Added:  It also seems to have lost the ability to display all the groupings applied to matches, even if the appropriate box is actually ticked.

Some of the DNA matches on both my own and my Wife’s trees have lost the link to them.

So in the main DNA match listing where they are assigned a Star from the group menu to signify that the match is “in the family tree”, “flagged as a DNA match” & “that they are linked to themselves in the tree”

This has not changed yet but now some show VIEW MATCH where they used to show VIEW IN TREE.

As we have 230 DNA matches linked in our trees I am non to pleased with Ancestry, but it will probably get worst.

Yes hopefully teething glitches and hopefully will get sorted.

I did fill in the survey though to suggest that I was somewhat dissatisfied with the beta rollout and the functionality which had been lost.

Also I can't say I like the format where any comments that have been added to a match are now below the line which separates that match from those both above and below it.  To me it looks as if the comment now relates to the match below - which is not the case at all.

I don't usually complain about these things but this, I think, is a lot worse than what it replaced.

i don't appear to have any 'beta' display changes, but i have noticed that the match list is loading a lot slower and my number of new matches has been dropping all week (normally between 40-50, but now down to about 15)

I am in Australia, and have opened Ancestry this morning to the new Beta matches display.
I am NOT HAPPY!!

For a start, the group colours have changed, eg my yellow group is now ochre. Also, a letter reference has been insterted into the square (no longer circle) colour indicator. This is also confusing because there are several groups with the same initial.

This is all very annoying, as I had used up most of the available colours for my groups and through years of use they are second nature to me. I now have to re-learn a whole set of new colours, as when I looked at the new range, the original colours have been removed.

Surely if Ancestry wanted to introduce a wider range of colours, they could have just kept the primary colours that were already available, and added a range of shades to complement each one.

I haven't even started to look through the other changes that are there in the Matches page. No doubt they will be equally annoying and confusing.

For a company as big as Ancestry, you would think that before hoisting elemental changes on their customers, they might run their ideas through some of the users and see how they might affect them. I think sometimes it is the geeks in the backroom that come up with these ideas, think they look cool and push them through without thinking about the poor end-user who has to re-learn their system anew each time.

As an IT person :-)  i think you will find its not the 'geeks' driving changes like this, its normally the marketing teams.  They would have loved the idea of a colour palatte change, as they can make all sorts of claims about refreshed interface, and design,  LoL.

They seem to have changed their relationship predictor as well. All my 8cM matches are suggested to be some flavour of 3rd or 4th cousin. Worse still it won't let me set anything further out than 4th cousin !
I hope this is just 'let the customer do the testing' and will quickly disappear but I worry.

Well it is unlikely to disappear unless we all let them know what we think!

Also it would be nice to know that we are beta testers rather than just spring it on us.
