Can anyone translate the following, please:

HIC IACIT CARANTI FIL CVPITIANI

HIC IACIT will be an error for HIC IACET, which means "Here lies". FIL will be an abbreviation of FILIUS, which means "son". The other two words are names, but whether someone has tried (not entirely successfully) to Latinise their endings, or whether they have been left in their native language is not certain.

Here lies Carantus/Caranti/ Carans the son of Cupitanus/Cupitani/Cupitan.
