Sam Whincup mentioned in dispatches

Hi everyone
I seem to have hit a brick wall with my ancestor Sam Whincup b1895. His parents were Samuel Whincup and Catherine Woodward. He served in the West Yorkshire regiment 10 bn with some distinction. He is mentioned on the Imperial War Museum website which gives some details of his medals including a military medal and bar and that he was also mentioned in dispatches (see https://livesofthefirstworldwar.iwm.org.uk/lifestory/4718417 )
Unfortunately I can't find anything more about his service other than a small amount on the fold3 site.
Can anyone help.

That link shows that Sam Whincup was living at 22 Upper Cavalier in 1921.
Sam, his wife, and one of his sons, were living with his parents in 1921, but that was not his address.  (I did notice very few trees seem to be aware that he even had a wife and children)

The address does appear on Shaun's newspaper clip, but unless it was a temporary address, I can't figure out where it came from, as it is the right Sam.

First went overseas with the 11th. Btn. Aug. 1915.
Posted to the 2/7th. who arrived in France Jan. 1917
so probably after that date.
They were reduced in strength (to a Cadre) in June 1918
so posted to the 10th. again probably at that time.
His medal roll states in the remarks column (1919) he was now
83318 in the WYR so looks like he re-joined possibly on limited engagement.
A bit of a trawl but finally found his 1st. MM awarded on Oct. 29th. 1918.
This was a phase of the Battle of Cambrai. After it was taken earlier the Btn.
moved on to Inchy & Neuvilly.
These phases were called the pursuit to the Selle & the Battle of the Selle.
The Selle being a river.
They were eventually relieved on Oct. 22nd.
It was for this action he received his MM & well deserved it was.

Thank you Jim1 that is really interesting. It's such a shame that the war records were burnt. I did look at the Gazette but when I tried to filter the results by adding Sam Whincup it returned 0 results. Now that I know some dates I will revisit this. The 1921 census shows he was unemployed and is wife died in 1925 in the Becket Street Union Workhouse and is buried in a guinea grave. His only son was killed in WW2. There's no justice.

His 1st. award doesn't appear until May 1919 for some reason.
his 2nd. in July 1919.
This is the one mentioned as devotion to duty as it was a post war award.
Just put in Whincup in the section dedicated to WW1.
