I am very glad to hear that the onion and sugar concoction appears to be working LM.  I will keep this in mind if I or anyone else I know develops a cough - I will tell them about it.

Yes, it is so sad about Michael Mosley.  You cannot help thoughts of 'if only' scenarios.

My sister swears by onion and sugar but not drinking it ..cutting in half putting in a saucer of sugar and leaving in the bedroom overnight breathing in the fumes

I wouldn't like the smell.would rather have Vicks vapour rub
But it can't do any harm to try .

KG hope your balance sorts out
My BVVP. ( Crystals in ears causing vertigo) Sorted itself after 10 days
I didn't like the in  bed ;head turning exercises  that were recommended

They made the room spin ..I don't know how much the medication helped I've reduced from 3 to 1 at bedtime and will stop soon if he's is definitely clear

Still taking care to stay hydrated and eat frequently+ not  carry much .
If possible I get company to go out with . + Lady who lives in flat above knows where I hide emergency key

Am I being dim ...can someone explain how russian cyber attacks effect blood banks
I can't make a connection.

I can remember a boiled onion, still hot , being applied to someone’s ear when they had a mastoid ,a really excruciatingly painful ear abscess.

Syrup of Squills was a cough medicine often given to babies , the Chemist would make up medicines for you too.
I am pre N.H,S, so home made mixtures passed down were still common.
Those oblong beige tablets, Chlorodine lozenges, they were withdrawn , old ladies like me would have a few at bedtime ,to get some sleep ——-
We ate them like sweets!
Permagnate of potash ,a dramatic purple / magenta liquid would bubble and dad would bathe his feet in it, he’d had “ trench feet” whilst in WW1 .
Glycerine and lemon made a good cough medicine too but I also feel there was some psychological  effect from just getting anything !
We were not mollycoddled in those days .
“ Stop thinking about it and it will go away!”my Mum’s cure!
It often worked too.

Another rainy day and really cold ,almost half way through June too.

Haircut this morning and by the time I get home in this weather it will look as if I have been dragged through a hedge backwards!

Grand daughter is expecting a baby ,sent some scans but I really can’t make anything out, just blurs but some more soon so perhaps I will then.
We did breathing exercises which really helped in Labour but it seems they don’t have the classes now.

Well almost time to go .
Look after yourselves ,cheerio.Viktoria.

I remember those chlorodyne lozenges.  They were so strongly flavoured that we used to break off bits at a time.  And I remember my brother was treated with the purple stuff when he had ringworm.  Did we eat coltsfoot rock for something, or was it just an aniseedy sweet?

Looking forward to our meal tonight - roast chicken with our own new potatoes and mangetout peas.  We have had strawberries this week, too, fairly small but sweet.  Everything in the garden is going mad and we shall soon have rainbow chard, I'm told.  How on earth do you cook it with its tough stalks and floppy leaves?  Tomatoes, leeks and onions are coming along nicely.  At least with all this rain there hasn't been a great need for watering in the garden.  Our fruit and veg are grown organically, but we suspect that our neighbour, who has an enormous, very well organised garden may spray a few chemicals around, which is disappointing.

Enjoy the weekend, folks, and keep well. ;D

Very strange weather,  more like April showers here in Essex, when will  we get some nice weather, no wonder there are so ma y coughs a d colds going around

The onion and sugar is working slowly but surely , after having a cough for over 2 months anything is worth a try, can't do me any harm.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend

For those interested:

The hospital has to do diagnostic tests on the fluid they took.
This is at The Walton Centre in Liverpool; neurological specialists.
I will get a telephone consultation on 26th, when they will tell me what steps are next.
Probably a shunt fitted, to drain excess fluid out of brain cavity, into the body cavity.

I have also had a couple of remedial sessions for BVVP. Seems to be working OK but still have to be careful. rj
