Two sailors photo August 1944
« on: Tuesday 25 June 24 00:56 BST (UK) »
My sister has just sent me a mobile phone retake of a studio pic of two sailors, which was found in my Aunt's photos.
We don't know who they are. The address, handwritten on the back is 14 Tuddenham Avenue, Ipswich, Suffolk, and a date Aug 1944.
The Suffolk name involved would be Hall, if they were her cousins. Their mother could be nee Hall as well I suppose.
The house doesn't seem to exist now. It goes from No.12 to No.16.
Has anyone an idea ?

No.  I have now and nothing comes up for 14 Tuddenham Avenue. Thank you Rena, I don't have a subscription any more. It's 1/16th of my pension.
14 Tuddenham Avenue seems to be missing from the road in the register ??? I thought it must have been replaced with a larger house built on the space of two since 1944. At a stretch of the imagination it might be 17 though.

Thank you very much SS for looking.
John would have been good, but our one was born 1883. It is definitely a 1, the second number is getting more like a 7, the more I look at it.
If that's the case, they're probably going to be another surname then. i.e. My Nan's sisters' sons.
Florence 1880 m Cook ?, Rosa 1887, Alice M 1889, Clara 1893, Bessie 1895.

Hi

Does the name Jesse Durrell mean anything to you?

He was at no.17 in 1948 when prosecuted for evasion of Customs Duty.

Possibly Jesse Robert Durrell, reg March quarter 1900, mother's maiden name OTTO.

Amended - Jesse Robert died 1900, think it's Jesse Togo Durrell, reg June quarter 1905, mother's maiden name OTTO.

Togo J Durrell married Marion N (sic) Calver in 1935.

Marion May Calver, registered June quarter 1916 in Blything, mother's maiden name HALL.

Togo and Marion are on the 1939 Register at 17 Tuddenham Avenue.

Thank you RW. That's a brilliant result. Thank you so much for looking. I will ask within the family for which of my Nan's sisters married a 'Calver'. I don't know if any of them have a subscription for searches anywhere though. They only keep stuff.

Possibly this is the right one - Alice Maud HALL married Fredrick CALVER, registered BLYTHING in 1910.

Jesse Togo Durrell was a pump man on a ship in 1948, so not impossible he could be in sailor's uniform in your photo.  Does one of the men look about 39 years old?
