My grandma doesn’t know who her father is

Hey everyone, my grandmother at the age of 86 just informed us that my great grandfather or who I thought was my great grandfather is not actually her real dad. This was a surprise, but we support her for not telling us for so long because obviously she had a reason for it but she would like to know if I could help research who her real dad is. Told her that I would love to help but she refuses to take a DNA test. Though her son (My dad) Has taken one through ancestry 23 and me. is there a way to find who her real dad is? How hard is this journey going to be? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It would be helpful if your Dad's father could test, so that her DNA could be isolated, but it is possible with just your Dad's DNA.

Ah I gotcha! Good to know that there is hope, as my father’s dad passed away many years ago.

How easy it may be is very dependant on who has tested, I've proved a wrong father on a cert with just a handful of matches but still can't fathom some other lines that don't tally with paperwork even though there are dozens of matches to use. When it comes to matches quality usually trumps quantity.

The more you know about the proven sides of the family (grandmother's mother's side, your father's father's side) the easier it will be to work out who is related to your father via those sides and who is likely on the unknown side. How much information do you have about your entire family tree at the moment?

So I actually found him! In a very short amount of time with very little research lol. Also without dna 😅 thank you for everyone’s advice!

My husband found out at his Dad's funeral that his mum was adopted as Aunt let slip.So doesn't know any details for her side at all.
My Dad I want to know more about his family in Donegal Falcarragh Ireland.
