Harriet susan cramp
« on: Monday 22 July 24 13:25 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm looking for help in locating a Marriage for Harriet Susan Cramp and Harry D. EDGSON. Harriet was born and raised in Cottesmore, Rutland and Harry was born and raised in Langham, Rutland.  They were living in Nottingham in 1901 when they had there 1st daughter. They were possibly married in 1900, but I can't confirm this. Her death is registered as Edgson in Belper, Derbyshire in 4th quarter of 1952

It looks like others have had similar difficulty in locating this marriage. I presume your estimate of 1900 is taken from the 1911 census? It’s possible the marrriage missed going on the quarterly returns to the GRO and a local register office might have a record of it, however it would be a question of which one. It’s also possible they never married though they said they did. Do all the children’s birth certificates show the mum as having the surname Cramp, just in case she had been married before ?

Have you seen the 1939 register for the widowed Harriett, there is a name change, I don't think they did marry
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

The 1952 Belper death for Harriet Susan Edgson is also indexed under Harriet Susan Cramp - same vol and pg

So it does look as if they didn't marry

Hi,

Just an observation, it doesn't help with the marriage question but it might help keep the tree right.

I'm not sure that he was Harry D? EDGSON, I think he was just Harry. His birth, baptism and death don't mention a D?. I think that might have been confused with his brother Henry Daniel b.1869 or even Herbert Dick b.1873.

Regards,
Daisy
