Missing GRO no matches found
« on: Friday 26 July 24 16:37 BST (UK) »
I will just dive right in here, as I don't know where else to turn too. I have been trying to obtain a death certificate for my ex husband, who died in November 2003 in chesterfield he was 39 at the time, my daughter wants closure too. A couple of years ago I applied for the death certificate but got a partial refund, so I phoned up GOV to ask why they said they couldn't find him in any of the death records,I thought it strange, but put it off till a couple of weeks ago. I paid to go on a couple of sites and it's still there with
Event quarter
District number
Entry number
DOR
But when I put it all in to the gov.uk to get the GOR it's coming up as no matches
Could anyone tell me why
I would be grateful for any help

The best option would be to obtain it directly from the registrar for the district the event was registered in. You don't need the GRO ref and thereby avoid the possibility of a mis indexed entry.

As he is deceased - if you give us his name we may be able to find him for you?  Are you certain he died in Chesterfield?

Did he die at the end of 2003?  If he died late December - his death may only have been registered in the March qtr of the following year

Also - if there was a post mortem or inquest - registration could be delayed

Which sites are you looking at?  I had a look on Ancestry and there are no male deaths (aged 38 - 40) registered in Chesterfield in November/December 2003.  Their indexes show the month, not just the quarter.

There are two male deaths in October and one in January 2004 and all three are in the GRO indexes as well.

I will also say, when using the GRO indexes if they have a middle name be careful not to enter for example 'John James' in the first forename field, you have to use both first forename and second forename fields.  I have done that a few times.

Debra  :)

It does not work if you enter entry number as 042, you have to leave out the 0.

I always put as little info as possible into these searches, certainly never the reference numbers

I really don't know how to thank you all so much for your help, I thought putting more details in the better, but that wasn't the case, I have now been able to order a death certificate for Malcolm, and we may get some closer, maybe finding out how he died, as the last time we saw him was 2001.
Can I just thank you all again for your help
