Death of Captain John Kelly 1824 Johnstown, Co Kilkenny
« on: Monday 05 August 24 07:06 BST (UK) »
I have the following information about my late husband's ggggrandfather.

The Royal Irish Constabulary - A short history and genealogical guide with a select list of medal awards and casualties Author:Jim Herlihy -

KELLY, John, captain, baronial chief constable, secretary to the PPF in Galmoy, Co. Kilkenny, 1821-1822; death reported in the Freeman's Journal on 9/7/1824. 'On Saturday last, at Johnstown,Co.Kilkenny, Captain John Kelly, Chief of Constabulary Police of the barony'.

His widow, Harriet applied for compensation on 18/9/1827 saying that her late husband arrested the murderers of John Marum, Knockashinna, barony of Galmoy, Co. Kilkenny on 16 March 1824.

I am interested in finding out where he was buried.  He was protestant.

Could anyone help me with the "PPF" mentioned in Jim Herhily's summary?

Cheers

An extract from the Topographical Dictionary of Ireland (1837) -

"JOHNSTOWN - (parish of Fertagh) ... contains a neat church, a commodious RC chapel ..."

Snipped from an old map (unable to identify year of publication) which shows an R.C. Chapel and an  unnamed Church on Church St - with grave yard.
