Help needed with a word in an inventory from the 1670s
« on: Monday 05 August 24 20:08 BST (UK) »
I am trying to transcribe an inventory that is part of a will that was written in the 1670s. The will is from the Lancashire/Westmorland/Cumberland area and the word/item I am stuck on is the one I have transcribed as kirsett in the list below. It is listed with other hand tools and iron items.

Item     1 kirsett? & 1 hatchett
Item     1 mattock & some old iron things

I have attached a picture of the above as written. Also a picture of a line which contains the word blancketts to show how the letter k has been written.

Is the word kirsett? And, if so, does anyone know what that implement was used for?

Many thanks in advance.
