1723 marriage - bride's name?
« on: Saturday 10 August 24 03:43 BST (UK) »
Could anyone help me with the surname of the bride in this 1723 marriage please.  It has been transcribed as Gifford but I wanted to check this.  The marriage is in the centre of the screen shot.

It reads (loosely) Edward Samwayes of West Knighton & Ann ---- of Sturminster Marshall were mar Sept 22 1723.  The marriage took place in Blandford St Mary.

There are no Gifford entries at all in the transcript of Sturminster Marshall parish registers which might mean something or nothing at all.  There are no Gifford entries at Blandford St Mary either.

Many thanks for any thoughts.

Thanks, Gilford is a good fit.  My problem then becomes there isn't an Ann Gilford born around the right time in Dorset.  But I do think it looks more like Gilford than Giford.
