Clip 2 is the debts he owes.

Here is Clip 3.
Scottish clerks were adept at using contractions in many words, plus the Scots Language had many words particular to them, not to mention the handwriting.........

You can get the gist of it anyway.

Your help is very much appreciated and your time, otherwise I would be still in the dark -

I am a little confused as there are 4 wills listed on the Scotland's People website that seem to be quite similar and I have only purchased one of them - they all have the same reference CC9/7/49 and all Glasgow Commissary Court -

14 Jan 1697 - James Pollock, elder in Maybole

22 Aug 1698 - James Pollock, messenger in Maybole & Alexander Pollock, his son

4 Jan 1699 - James Pollock, grandson/nephew to James Pollock, messenger in Maybole (this is the one transcribed above)

18 Aug 1699 - James Pollock, grandson/nephew to James Pollock, messenger in Maybole

All a little confusing - I am tempted to purchase the other three wills to help clarify things but not being able to read them is a handicap. I am actually trying to trace a Pollock family in Ireland (in the Coleraine area), the reason I am interested in this Maybole family is that they had links to that part of Ireland -

From sasine records

NAS GD25/7/94 (16 May 1696) - sasine for lands of Mochrumhill by Hew Kennedy of Baltersan, in favour of James Pollock in Maybole.

NAS GD25/7/110 (28 Oct 1698) - Sasine of the lands of Mochrumhill by Hugh Kennedy of Baltersan in favour of Anna Pollock relict of Andrew Mitchell in Kilbridie (Ireland), Agnes Pollock relict of Adam Galt in Grange of Kildalloch (Ireland), as heirs of James Pollock their brother, James Pollock his oy (grandson) and Alexander Pollock his son.

Killybready is in Aghanloo parish Co Derry and the Grange of Kildollagh is in the Liberties of Coleraine.

I've gone back to the Inventory to see if any of the names tie in with those in Ireland.
There's a Kennedy, but he lives in Ayr. quite possibly just a co-incidence.

Inventar
Imprimis yr was addebted and owand to the defunct
the tyme of his decease foresaid ?  David Mcallex(and)er
sone to John Mcallex(and)er yor of Drummmochrein as prin(cipa)ll(?)

James Crawford of newwark baillie Dept of Carrick
and the said Jon Mcallex(and)er as Ca(utio)ner(?) for him the soume
of j M ij ll xijs resting of the prin(cipa)ll(?) soume of j M ix ll
xij s Scotts xxxiij lib ?ijs viij d of penaltie and iij lib of
@rent preceeding the Defuncts decease be bond Granted be
yrin con(joint)lie and se(ver)ally to the said defunct James Ken-
nedy Conveniner in Air Alex(and)er Brinning of Machremore
and Mr Clauld hamiltone late min(ist)er of Kirkosewall
Curators to the said Defunct

Summa of the Inv(enta)r   jM xxxviij ll (then written above) xviiijs 8d
followes the defuncts latter will

I’ve transcribed the symbol in the lists of amounts of money, which I think is for marks, as M.
‘ll’ may be ‘lib’, but will be an abbreviation for pounds.

owand - owing
Cautioner - someone who stood as security
@rent - annualrent - interest due
yrin - therein
curator - administrator

So this is the testament of James Pollock in 1699, the grandson of James the elder.
James the elder's testament is 1697.
The Pollock women Agnes and Anna from the Sasines seem to be the sisters of James the elder.
I think it would be well worth while getting that one.
Maybe something in there will tie up with the Ireland side.

Have you got the sasines you mention?
I seem to remember when I was doing a lot of Scottish research that familysearch.org had films of sasines.
I'll see if I can check it out.
Mind you, quite often they don't really give you a lot more information relationship -wise than the precis you have found, although there may be more details about the land, and some of them can be a nightmare to read! This testament you have posted is a walk in the park compared to some of the sasines!
