Origin of the surname Banat
« on: Saturday 24 August 24 11:18 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone! I'm hoping to get some insight into the origins and history of the "Banat" surname, which is present in my family. One of my paternal grandparents was born in Jaffa, Palestine. I'm wondering if there's any known historical context or connections regarding this surname and potentially it's arrival in Palestine. Any information or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to RootsChat.

A quick google search brings up a number of theories as the origin of the name.

I don't really know, but would think it was related to the region of Hungary/Serbia/ Romania  :-\
