Help with deciphering handwriting from baptism record
« on: Thursday 29 August 24 07:06 BST (UK) »
Hello lovely people :-)

I'm having trouble diciphering one/two word/s on the attached baptism record. Just after the 1846, it says admitted with, but I can't make out the rest. Any suggestions???

Thank you in advance!

I think it may say "admitted to the church"
however without seeing a better image, I cannot be sure.
You have not given where this baptism took place so we can look it up.
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

Thank you Neale 1961.
Any idea why those words were added? I can't find any other entries with those words, so it appears to be unsual.

I don’t think they have been added, just written in smaller lettering to fit the space.
Possibly one or other of the parents were NOT from this parish, or maybe the child had been baptised in another denomination previously.

I have come across that notation before, but not often, and on those occasions it was for an illegitimate child.

Maybe others will have some suggestions.

This usually follows a private baptism (at home?).
Essentially, the baptism is split into 2 parts: the (private) baptism at home and the acceptance into the Church.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)
