missing in 1861
« on: Wednesday 04 September 24 19:18 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help please. I have a family in 1851 but can`t find all of them in 1861
The only one I have found is a married son, but where are the rest, I have tried Familysearch but still no luck. I don`t know if they would be in  missing areas. Names in CAPITALS are the line I am following  and am OK with those, they were also blacksmiths.
Thank you

As you know - large parts of the Welsh 1861 are missing which may be the reason you can't find them

The 1861 census is notorious for missing pieces and parts of pieces. Have you checked the missing pieces  here~

I did  look and Monmouthshire isn't on that list.

There's enough of them in the family but even individually I can't find them except Edward.

Thanks

I can`t find the family in Llanhilleth, Monmouthshire from 1851 in 1871 either, after 20 Years the parents have probably died  and children moved on. I`m not finding deaths for Thomas and Mary so far.
As for Edward, I struggled to find him in 1871 on Ancestry but he showed up on family Search.
I still can`t find him on Ancestry, even using all the family names.

Mistranscribed as Evanson on Anc...

1871 Canton, Cardiff

All born Newport Monmouth

Edward Evanson 39 Head, Blacksmith
Martha Evanson 38 Wife
Ann Evanson 19 Daughter
William Evanson 17 Son
Jacob Evanson   14   Son
Elizabeth Evanson 10 Daughter
John Evanson 9 Son
Thomas Evanson 4 Son

Edward states b Newport 1861/1871 no mention of Llanhilleth, I think the 1851 is not the correct family.  A number of trees have this family, but most have father Edward John Evans b Dublin. Mother Elizabeth, which also seems a stretch.

Parents married 1851 Newport best to check his fathers name and occupation to take out guesswork.

Good luck

Just found this. It seems to match .
There is a probate record for a Thomas Evans late of Aberbeeg, Monmouth, Blacksmith  who died 28 July 1867.
Mary Evans widow seems not to have dealt with administration in 1868  and Edward Evans blacksmith of Aberbeeg was granted administration again in 1874.

Aberbeeg is a village which lies in both Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly County Borough, in Wales, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. It is part of the community of Llanhilleth.

Now the death ages don`t match, am I looking at the wrong district.
