Yorkshire Quarter Sessions - 1690
« on: Friday 20 September 24 21:57 BST (UK) »
Another quarter session that I need some help with. I have made this attempt at a transcription, but I can't quite make it all out, and I'm sure I've got a few errors, too. A translation would also be appreciated - I think it's something to do with dogs.

You've got almost all of it. They were charged with poaching.

And that John Scatcher, lately of Morley in the West Riding of the aforesaid county, labourer, and John Charlesworth, lately of Cleckheaton in the West Riding of the aforesaid county, labourer, on the first day of December in the second year of the reign of the lord and lady William and Mary by the grace of God King and Queen of England etc., with force and arms etc., at Cleckheaton aforesaid in the West Riding of the aforesaid county, unlawfully and unjustly went hunting a certain hare with three French dogs, and then and there, with the aforesaid dogs, killed, took and carried away the aforesaid hare, not being authorised according to the form of the statute etc., against the peace etc., and against the form of the statute etc.

Above each name is Cer. I think this shows that a 'writ of certiorari' was issued, effectively referring the case to a higher court for judgment.
