Rick,

Hi, if you have DNA results on Ancestry as well I would certainly start the grouping experiment on that.

As Biggles says it’s still a matter, of slow research, and patience, don’t give up!

While MH has some better tools, people seem to have bigger trees on Ancestry, which gives a better chance of a match to something you can build on.

It’s frustrating though that Ancestry doesn’t have better tools, and though the Pro Tools I understand help, they could be much better.

Just a note with reference sweet and sour with more family members testing. With DNA the more the better.
Everyone inherits different bits of their parents DNA, so the more cousins, second cousins you have testing the more compete your coverage of your ancestors DNA, you never know which, little bit of DNA will be the one that gives the crucial match though the brick wall, it might well not be yours!

It really would be better for all if Ancestry bought up both My Heritage and Gedmatch and incorporated all the tools in to one place.

I have used My Heritage and their Cluster and Comparison tools have been sort of useful.  In my case the larger cluster grouping were so low in cM with not much supporting information as to not be worth the effort.

As it is Ancestry’s Pro Tools is only really useful in seeing what DNA cM a specific DNA match actually shares with other mutual DNA matches.

That said once the problems are solved I can say it is a great feeling and hopefully the Op will get that “resolved at last” feeling.

Biggles,

I think that would be an absolute disaster. As exampled by ProTools all Ancestry want to do is squeeze money out of users.
I already pay them a significant amount of money, and they are restricting their tools to make more.
The fan tree only goes to 4 generations now. You need to pay for Pro Tools to get more.
They only allow a limited number of groups, not difficult or expensive to change.
We are just a source of revenue, not partners any more.
We are doing the research that make their tools work.

   Rant over.
