Mystery Winsor family in Ugborough 1780s-1790s
« on: Saturday 09 November 24 12:57 GMT (UK) »
A series of birth entries in the Ugborough church records shows:

George Winsor & wife Betty (mnu):

dau  Susannah b. 1787- d.bef 1791
son  George b. about Jun 1788
dau  Elizabeth “Betty” b. 1789
dau  Susannah b. 1791
dau  Mary b. 1793

Descendants' DNA shows this George Winsor tracking back to William Winsor of Modbury and wife Zenobia Prior, but I cannot find the above couple before they show up for the birth of first daughter Susannah in 1787 - no marriage records - and after 1793 this couple disappears from Ugborough records.

This couple is definitely NOT George Winsor and wife Elizabeth Wills of Staverton (no DNA matches with that line and they had children before, concurrent and after all born in Staverton).

Are there any directories from the 1790's Ugborough showing tradesmen/occupations?

Any thoughts on other resources I could use in research would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I cannot find a pair of candidate parents for that George Winsor in any of the descendants of William and Zenobia.

Married 20 April 1786
at Churston Ferrers, Devon

George Winsor (of the parish of Dean Prior)
and
Elizabeth Winsor (of this parish)

He signed, she made her mark

Witnesses: Mary Therdon[?] Neck, John Smith
John Smith witnessed numerous marriages around this time so was presumably unrelated.

Since we now have that Betty was also a Winsor it's equally possible that the DNA link to the Modbury family is through her. Could she be the Elizabeth daughter of William and Grace Winsor baptised there in 1752?

Well she could be but given a marriage at Churston Ferrers and they usually marry in the brides's parish I'd go for
Betty d of Humphrey and Joan 17.8.1755 at Churston Ferrers.
Humphrey married Joan Neck at Dittisham 16.2.1749 both of Churston

Humphrey bapt Berry Pomeroy 18 Dec 1722 s of George and Elizabeth Winsor.
Brother Alex bapt 1.12.1715 Married Su Bedlake 7.1.1742 BP who had a son George 4.5.1746 at BP would have been my bet but that doesn't connect up to William and Zenobia.

I'm pretty sure Betty's line is right with the Neck connection as one of the witnesses ,not so sure George.
