Hi
A bit more on the family.
His dad John Jackson was also a ropemaker from Stoke Demerol working at the Dockyard. So it's probable that Ralph Thomas learned his trade from his father and worked at the same place in the Naval Dockyard.
John Jackson rope maker of SD at Dockyard married Ann Collings 9.4.1792 .They both signed their names ,unusual for the tome. Witnesses William Collings and William Roberts.
John and Ann also had 2 daughters baptised at the Chapel Julian Heath born 24.3.1793 /bapt 9th May 1793 and Elizabeth Bray born 4th July 1798 bapt 2nd Sept 1798
Grandparents Ralph and Dorothy Bray who married at St Charles Plymouth 24.12.1759 .Again they signed the register .Witnesses John and Jeremy Carter. Ralph was also a ropemaker.
Children Elizabeth 18.4.1761 ,John 29.12.1762/13.1.1763, William 1/2.6 1765 ,William 16/30.3.1767,Thomas 7.2.1772 bapt 2.3.1772 all at the Presbyterian Chapel.
So Ralph Thomas was named after his grandfather and uncle.
On his mother's side
Ann Collings born 10 Dec 1762 bapt 2.1.1763 d of William at Prebyterian chapel .
Siblings William Rhode 27.1.1765 bapt 18th Feb , Ambrose Rhodis 5/25.3.1767,William and Julian 31.10.1774 bapt 12 Dec 1774,Abraham 14.2.1776 bapt 13 Jan 1777,John 8/28.6.1779,Henry 30 Mar/16 April 1784
The latter children have a mother Eleanor. There was a William Collings cabinet maker in the City in 1762 taking on apprentice Christopher Sluggett but I can't be sure it's him.
Given the move from Stoke Demerol to Dartmouth it does look as though Ralph Thomas was connected to the Navy.
