I wonder if anyone can help with this. I was recently sent this image (a copy) of a soldier of the A&SH. The photograph studio could be any of the three noted on the picture.
It came from a 2nd cousin in the USA. She thought the image was of her grandfather John Bews Hamilton. (a brother of my gran)
John B Hamilton was born in Greenock Renfrewshire in 1874, on a later census he is noted as a Railway Brakesman.
John emigrated to the USA and became a naturalised US Citizen in 1914.
Died USA 1919.
The image certainly has a family resemblance.
Could I be pointed in the right direction to find if he was a regular soldier or a reservist?
