By the way homeless people often like books and can't afford even from charity shops ..if I can give direct I do.

2 people like heavy books thrillers etc
Several like the easy read ones which can be passed on to children.

We have about 800 books, lots being first edition.

Lifelike a disease, we see them and buy them.

I feel sorry for my daughter who won't know what to do with them. Probably chuck them away.

They are all beautiful and precious.

Hopefully they do end up in appreciative hands, more tricky if many to find homes for at once though.

I've watched the "Brokenwood" mysteries from time to time, usually on the dining room telly, whilst eating. You're right, they are gentle and very like "Midsummer" before it got really silly.
TY
And you're right re being silly at times and too unbelievable storyline but querky, I've seen a few being 'local' and think most of our actors have probably featured at least once in it and of course familiar buildings and film locations recognised.

Monday over for us here now this new week ...

Can you not advertise your books,   I quite accidentally got rid of my fathers horse memorabilia,  it was brasses won  at Regent's Park Horse show between about 1930 to 1950 ish, had dated brasses, I was made an offer that made my eyes almost pop out, I am going to treat  myself to a keepsake to pass on out of the cash I was given, the man who bought them has a    tack room full of horse "stuff", my dear dad would be so pleased, I did not want them  going onto a skip.

Off to the new diary

A  lot of the children s books that I have ,were bought from a friend who sells Usbourn books .her house is choc a block with books and her son has threatened to thow them away when she dies .

My parents loved books but there was a lot of sorting out & trips to second handbook shops when my dad died  died
His wife + my step sister kept quite a lot and my childhood books went to my nieces and nephews.

My mother  aged 94
has 3 huge book cases and a small one
2 cover most of 1 wall

Recently she's whittled her collection down a bit . Lots of wonderful reference books .as well as classics .

I like books to be read so love to give them away and I can't afford new books myself so love buying them
+ Re donating to charity shops

Victoria make sure your descendants know which of your books are first editions maybe start looking up their value on eBay or equivalent

My friend s children don't want books
I gradually bought her ladybird books from her

I gave vintage ones to my nephew and apparently he threw them away because he prefers new books ...I was gutted .I have given some to retirement homes because people like to see books they read to their children or read as a child .
+ Im on a ladybird 🐞 collectors site on Facebook. Found good homes for at least 70 and gave 15 left

Oh goodness don’t talk to me about books…
I’ve got so many including ones inherited from my parents… it’s a job to know what to do with them all especially after we’ve gone!

My son and wife took 1,000 books with them when they moved to NZ over 20 yrs ago… they used to go to book fairs and take 100-200 then buy similar amount of newer ones!

I could never live without the written words lining my shelves. But need to think about downsizing stuff and it’ll be heart breaking to get rid of some of them.

Well that’s a task for the new year so just enjoy Christmas for now..

Lovely sunny day here washing on the line.. long may it last fed up with grey skies.
Take care everyone and don’t stress over Christmas it’s here and gone too quickly just enjoy it!

When we fist married, and moved into our house, I commented - having lived very old house before, with large rooms - that I really wished that each room was about 1metre larger in all directions, to fit more bookshelves.
Well, decades later, the rooms haven't managed to grow, but we've realised that each wall in each room - except the downstairs 'loo, have bookshelves, all totally full, plus the landing and hallways, every bedroom .......
Need a bigger house. Perhaps if I keep on pushing against all the walls?
And I still really want a book for Christmas each year, just as I've had every year since before even I could read!
I find it really hard to part with books, anyone who borrows a book but then does not "remember" to return it, is on my blacklist, and the next time they ask to borrow something from my (groaning) shelves is clearly told, now "When you bring back ( name of missing book) then I'll think of it....
But over the past few years I've managed to hoof out for a charity I know, several big boxes of good quality paperbacks.
Haven't (yet) managed to get to a decent bookshop for this year's pressie-book......
