Diary summary week ending 15th December 2024
« on: Tuesday 10 December 24 20:34 GMT (UK) »
Been a very cold day here, I don't like these miserable days.

Been invited out for lunch  tomorrow  but despite the things I need to do I am  going,  life is to short not to.

Hello L.M.

I have been looking for the new diary ,thanks for starting it.

A dark day with lots of rain ,not too cold though.
Alarm had its usual yearly check all included in the service charges.
A friendly local firm ,very obliging ,the people who come are often friends of my grandchildren ,were together at our local High School .

Many tradesmen are ex pupils and their parents still have a laugh with me ,Ramsbottom still has a lot of “ small town “ benefits .

I hope it is a dry day tomorrow ,I must hand deliver the cards for neighbours .
Quite a lot of new neighbours recently.
A couple of rented houses otherwise all owner occupied ,they sell very quickly perhaps because they have decent sized front gardens suitable for parking off
road,no one else can park outside your home then.
Dipped kerbs are expensive though but very handy.

Well an earlier night and a good book .
I should sleep well tonight ,got a good bit done today.
Cheerio folks ,hope all are alright .
Viktoria.

P.S.if you live in Ramsbottom and see someone walking on their hands- it will be me!
I keep getting mixed up with my hand cream and foot cream I put on at
night! ::)

Phew, after marathon card-writing day one day, and a second day addressing and stamping, finally pushed  well, almost balanced last Christmas cards on / in post box! "They" seem always to be delivering, but that's the second local rural post box near me in two days that I could barely squeeze post into!
-But now I can tidy up desk etc.
Why do I always find afterwards some spare cards that don't seem to have an envelope, and some envelopes that seem to claim no card? I start off with neat piles on a large worksurface, envelopes beneath their cards...
.....and end up each year with a muddle.
How do I do it? OH says it's a man called "Mr S*D, and his law.

I've just been to post mine, the thing on the postbox that tells you when the next collection is due says Saturday! I'm assuming it's just an oversight as the posties are so busy. It's a priority postbox so I think it's unlikely it's going to be three days before it's emptied. I certainly hope not anyway, as I've gone to the trouble of writing them. ::)

Wrote my posting cards yesterday and posted today,  sadly Canada  post is on strike so the post office is not accepting any post as today.

I had to get 3 "thinking of you cards" for bereaved friends, how can one send a Christmas card with jolly greetings , one friend has had to wait 5 weeks for a funeral to take place next week.

Very cold today, almost frozen waiting for a bus that didn't turn up,  only get one an hour so we had to walk further to get another bus, as least we didn't have to wait for the bus that we discovered later didn't turn up..

Keep warm

Did my downstairs carpets today right through from lounge to kitchen,
A charcoal grey ,low looped pile ,sort of contract stuff ,but quite acceptable .
I use a dry shampoo, powdery stuff, it does brighten the traffic areas .
I think it must have cost 2/11 1/2 ( two and eleven pence halfpenny a meter!)
Put in by the builders who gutted the house and tarted it up .
So no expense spared!

Upstairs is fine , same stuff but  no real traffic areas.

Salmon for tea ,son still away,so just me .
Cheque book has come so I can send the Christmas ones to family.
Makes sense to buy in the sales in January.
Only got six cards as yet,two weeks to THE day.
Where is the magic?

As a young person we sang in The Twelve Days of Christmas about  four Colin birds ,being told they were game birds like partridges are, however choirs seem to sing calling birds nowadays , wonder which is correct.
I must look it up.

Well almost time for Pointless,I like that .
Then tea.
Cheerio .Viktoria.

Against all odds, we are going to try and squeeze our enormous Christmas tree somewhere in the living room.
I was determined to NOT do Christmas but it would only make me feel miserable.
I love to dress the tree and we have bought new ornaments.
It will only be hubby and me, as per usual.
The cards have all been written and posted. We have had 16 so far. I like to hang them up on a pretty ribbon.
Enjoy today 🤗

So pleased you have changed your mind Marian, you won't regret it I am sure, there is only the 2 of us although we will see our daughter and family Christmas day, we have to get into the loft to get the decoration down, can't do that on my own now, don't do as much decorating  as we did when the family,y were young and we don't have a huge tree, in fact it came I  3 parts, we use 2 and is quite adequate..

Take care everyone and keep warm

I posted 2 cards on Monday,  both to  the same person,   one a Christmas card and one  a 60th anniversary card for 17th, the anniversary  card I put a first class stamp on, Christmas  card 2nd class, would you believe it, 2nd class arrived on Wednesday but 1st class still in the post, so annoying   lesson learnt there.
