She certainly is not easy to find pre 1881. Did notice a small change in 1901 census she is Sarah A Hesketh

SS

Agreed…I think I may have to stick a pin in this one for the time being unfortunately bcos I’m having no luck at all

Part of the trouble is that ALL the Hesketh families originated from the Ormskirk/Simondswood area. I found a name map a long time ago.
I have Hesketh in one of my trees. I was lucky in that there were a few helpful wills.

On her marriage, Sarah's father is listed as Thomas Conless, engineer. There's no obvious family members as witnesses

She's not easy to find. There's some Conles and similar spellings born Ireland, so maybe she's actually from there?

Who were the witnesses just out of curiosity? Where are you unable to search this?

The witnesses are John McDunnah and Winnifred Egan. Both make their mark, so the spelling of their names could be somewhat phonetic/variable across the records. Again - potentially Irish connections?

The other thing that struck me is on lancsbmd it names the marriage church as St Our Lady & St Nicholas (ie Liverpool parish church) & St Anne. St Anne (Rc) is possibly a second marriage to satisfy an RC connection. It was common practice at that time for a mixed marriage to be celebrated in both denominations. Sometimes even producing 2 registrations (I have an example in my tree)

For anyone else interested I found the family under ‘Heskith’ on the 1881 census. That’s James, Sarah and Elizabeth…

Is anybody able to find any birth dates for any of the children besides estimated dates on the census records? I’ve been looking and I can’t seem to find anything
