Hesketh family Liverpool 1909
« on: Tuesday 07 January 25 14:56 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am looking for help with my grandfather. His name was James Hesketh b 1909 Liverpool

I’ve seen him in the 1911 census  listed as grandson. I believe his mother is listed above him as Jane Hesketh daughter in law.

Jane wasn’t listed as a widow although no father was present at the time of census.

It says she was married for 2 years although the marriage I found on family search says 1915, West Derby Liverpool. I’m not sure why this would be?

This was to William J Hesketh.

I believe Janes surname was woods because I saw a photo of her gravestone where she was buried alongside her sister Ann Mayor and the marriage I found for a Mayor and Ann lead me to the surname woods…

I would presume the John listed as head of household on the 1911 census was James grandfather, although I can only find a James Hesketh that was listed as one of the children’s fathers on a marriage certificate but that could be poor research on my behalf…

I’m getting very confused wirh what I’m finding and I’m hoping somebody could find something I’ve possibly missed

Thank you in advance.

The 1911 gives James age as 18 months

This birth registration from the GRO index would match your 'Woods' connection but does need verifying

A copy of the birth certificate for £3. is the least expensive and you will get the name of his mother and father.

The 1915 marriage between William J Hesketh and Jane Woods gives an address for both of them as 177 Stanley Road which is where young James is living in 1911

William J is a soldier age 25 - father James Hesketh
Jane Woods is a spinster age 29 father John Woods (deceased)

This would be correct as James birthday was October 2nd 1909

I’m not sure how you look up census records as I was emailed the 1911 one from somebody on my heritage…

Is anybody able to find any of the parents on the earlier census or able to link me to where I can look it up myself? :)

Census transcripts are available https://www.familysearch.org/search/. You just need to register.

You can get a free account on FindMyPast and purchase images with micropayments.

FindMyPast and Ancestry have all of the census within their subscriptions

If you are considering a subscription then there are half price ones available for Ancestry, this offer has been running for a few years.
