Catholic records from Baden-Württemberg, Germany
« on: Wednesday 08 January 25 15:11 GMT (UK) »
I have just joined RootsChat.com so please bear with me as I learn.

I have hit a little bit of a dead end when tracing a line back to Germany.

This family arrived in Rockhampton, Qld, Australia in October 1877 on the "Fritz Reuter" from Hamburg.  I believe that they were all from Westernhausen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

My GG Grandfather, Johann Viktor Wengert - 44
My GG Grandmother, Christiana Wengert (nee Haldt) - 40
and three children
Josef Sebastian Wengert - 9
Johann Peter Wengert - 8
Catharina Josepha Wengert - 5 (My Great Grandmother)

When I have attempted to find any records from Germany, I have had no luck. I cannot locate any birth or marriage.

Is someone able to assist me? I am quite familiar with researching in Scotland, Ireland and England but this one is challenging me.  I believe that they were a Catholic family - I have noticed most of the documentation I can locate is Lutheran.

Thank you.

Thank you SO much. This is wonderful information.

I long suspected that Christina was his second wife but could not find any concrete proof.

I will get onto familysearch and see what else I can locate.
