Hi kevsjules,

Without knowing what province they were in, it's hard to help you out.  If you think that James would have been in Canada in 1901 you can search that census at http://automatedgenealogy.com .  This is a transcription site with links to the original images at the National Archives.  (Sorry - I can't search it from the computer I'm on or I would have taken a quick look for him!)  The 1911 census has also been released, but there is no name index yet, so unless you know the place you won't be able to find them there.  (A name index has been started by volunteers at automatedgenealogy, but it is still in the early stages)

As for the marriage, it is fairly recent so the records may not have been released to the public yet.  BMDs are provincial jurisdiction around here, so each province has its own system and rules.  Here in Ontario marriages up to 1923 are public.  After that you can only get a copy of the certificate if you can prove that the person has died and you are next-of-kin.  Each year, one more year of records is released.  I don't know what the cut-off years are in the other provinces.  A good site for Ontario BMDs is http://www.rootsweb.com/~onvsr/  This is like FreeBMD in the UK - volunteer transcriptions, so it is not complete but fairly good.  I took a look for the marriage, but could not find anything.

Sorry I can't be of more help!  If you find him on the 1901 census, post the details and maybe someone can help you further once we know his location.

Martha
