James FAWNS/FAUNS + Mary SAMPSON/SAMSON/SIMSON
« on: Tuesday 04 February 25 19:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi List
I thought I would try and find a burial/death of my above ancestors who have been a mystery for a while now.

This couple married
27 July 1765
Aberlemno, Forfarshire, Scotland
Children (11)

All of their children were born in Aberlemno Angus

Their last child was:-
11) Williams Fawns
B:1784 Muirside, Melgund, Aberlemno, Angus, so I know they were alive then at least.

There is nothing that I could see on Scotlands people for a burial/death anywhere.

Would really appreciate some help with this.  Kindest regards Dianna

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi Forfarian
Thanks but the other posts are not specific to this request.  This only pertains to possible help with James FAWNS and MARY FAWNS deaths after the birth of their last child.

I won't worry about it I don't think!  No answers out there by the looks of it.  Thanks anyway.  Regards Dianna

Dianna,

From my previous post, so half answered.

Do you have the Fanum grave in Aberlemno? Interestingly, no Fawns etc pre 1855 otherwise.

Hi David
Yes I'm sure I saw that with the strange Fanum spelling.  I'll find it again! But that is actually a headstone isn't it??

I think I will have to "dig" around for Mort cloth's won't I possibly for James and Mary. What fun.  LOL.

Just as an aside I found the death certificate of one of the daughters of James and Mary.  ie MARY FAWNS/GORDON.  Now if the information is correct?? I'm not sure.

I have attached the death certificate.  If James FAWNS was a Shoemaker, could be a lead.  Many thanks Dianna

Stone 6 in Aberlemno - pre 1855 monumental inscriptions.

By John and James Fanums imo fa John Fanum sometime subtenant in Nether Melgund 12.1746 46; David Fanum 2.1783 26;
Inf MF IoF EF DF IF.

Yes thanks David here it is.  Now where does one go from here???  I take it there is an image??? of the above and that the letters are a bit difficult to make out, would that be correct??

I guess I need to understand was the Inf MF IoF EF DF IF. mean.  LOL

Hi,

My record says IeF MF …
Recording other members of The F - Fanum family.

I really meant the bit about no Fawns stones in Aberlemno pre1855.

HI David yes I understood that no Fawn's stones in Aberlemno.  James and Mary may not have died there though, I'm only guessing and perhaps if they did there is no stone for them

That's why I may have to "tackle" the mort cloths.  They could be anywhere I know from Brechin to Arbroath.  As there is no death records on Scotlands people I will have to look at mort cloths from my experience not all death's are recorded.

Thanks Dianna
