I found one short newspaper cutting saying that Emma had used bad language in comminucation with the authorities and that is the reason they were being deported, it said her two sons had been taken into care before deportation, but there must be more to it than that.

Have you tried contacting Library and Archives Canada?  They might be able to help you with what Pink Card meant.  When you open the home page, you will see Services at the bottom and you can click there and it will take you to a drop down menu of topics.  You can send them a question under Family History and Genealogy.

An older child Joseph Beakhurst had already emigrated to Canada as a soldier but I can't find him on the later censuses or on any other records.

amondg - I also found that passenger list for The Grampian but if they left on 27 Jan 1920, that means it took them until 4th April to reach Canada, 2 months and 8 days, is that correct?

It only took my family a week or so and that was around 1926.

Hi,

I think 27 Jan 1920 date was a transcription error. Flipping through to the 1st page, where it lists
totals number of passengers etc., the Grampian sheet is missing and they picked up the ship
Saxonia's info by error.

I agree with Diana, 7 - 10 days depending on the weather.

Hi,

Unfortunately very few deportation files exist in that time frame. I had a quick look and didn't
spot anything for that family.

This is the link if you wish to have a closer look yourself.
