Pretty sure it's the short form of "Witnesses".

I agree too.

But the names after this word seem pretty clear to me.

Bridget was from the parish of Currin, AKA Drumully, Co. Monaghan - given as "Curran" on the Australian record.  This parish is directly on the border with Co. Cavan, so very reasonable to marry a man from Cavan.

Baptismal records for Currin don't start until 1844, and marriages until 1865 - long after the period of interest.

My conclusion is that Bridget was almost certainly married in her home parish, where there is no extant record. The 1831 Co. Carlow marriage of a James Murray is completely unrelated.

This is likely and I guess the best way to resolve this is to get as many of the existing family DNA tested.

Sorry to put a spoke in, or a damper on what OP thinks of as a resolved question.

The question was her maiden name. That is certainly resolved.

The question was her maiden name. That is certainly resolved.

The original question was the maiden name of the bride in a specific marriage, in Co. Carlow, in 1831.

Now it appears you are uninterested in the fact that that marriage is not actually yours.  Neither have you shown any interest in where in Co. Monaghan your relative came from.

My apologies for having tried to be of assistance.
