The King's Regiment (Liverpool)
« on: Friday 16 September 05 23:24 BST (UK) »
I hope someone might help me confirm the regiment of my husband's grandfather.  I'm not able to scan in the photo I have (way behind in technology here!) but I'm pretty sure I have identified the cap badge from the military badges website as The King's Regiment (Liverpool) 1927-1950.  He was born in Wigan in 1880 and was a coal miner.

I have two questions.  As the photo of this relative was taken during the First World War what was the name of the regiment then?  Was it the same?  Also it is just possible to see from the photo that there was something on the edge of his epaulette, just above the sleeve seam.  It could be a metal insignia, looks like a crescent shape but as he is sideways on I can't see anything too clearly.  Would this denote his army occupation - i.e. signals or something similar?  There are no rank insignia so I presume he was a private.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Mack

His name was Henry Taylor - not very helpful to you. I haven't any other information except the photo.  I looked for the medal roll on National Archives but of course got about 929 results!  I need to narrow it down a bit.

Hi Mack

That was a very polite interrogation!

I have very little information.  He didn't have a middle name, and as far as we know was only known as Henry.  The photo looks like it was taken in a studio.  We know that he went to America soon after the war but I am still checking on the dates.  If I am sure about the regiment I will look through the National Archives medal roll lists and hope I can find him that way.  At least I will have the medal card.  I know that looking for the Taylor surname is not easy so thanks for anything you can do.

Hi Mack

This is great, looks very promising so now I'll go back to the medal cards and see if I can match it up.

Thanks for helping me again and so fast.
