JAMES CUNNINGHAM b.circa 1852 Coatbridge

Hello fellow searchers

Can anyone help with a lookup for James Cunningham,s birth details.   His marriage certificate gives his parent's names as Andrew Cunningham and Agnes Brash.   James is listed as 26 on the 1881 census for Glasgow, making his birth circa 1855, birthplace, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, but listed as 21 on his marriage to Susan Anderson in 1873 which would make his birth year circa 1852.   I am trying to get further back with my research but having trouble with records.

I had a wee look in the British Vital Records for your James Cunningham born 1852 +/- 2 years with father Andrew and mother Agnes but couldn't find any.

The only one I can find is this one:

Of course if he wasn't born till 1855, your best bet would be to look for his birth at Scotland's People.

Anne, thanks for your help, I don't think I have a connection there, the date fits but none of the names match up.   Can you let me know the web site for British Vital Records.
Liz, I must be doing something wrong, I tried the L.D.S. family search and came up with nothing on their parent search, what you have sent is a great help.
Falkryn, thank you, I have the 1861 census stats from Liz and now the 1851 stats from yourself.   This is wonderful as it confirms  an Irish ancestor for me.

I don't know whether the BVR's are online anywhere, but again, you can buy the complete set from LDS direct, or . . . .

Thanks for your reply,  I am still trying to access James' birth certificate from which I hope to find the date of his parent's marriage and then from then to their parents.   However as the date I have is circa 1852 it just misses the statutory records so I don't hold out much hope of finding too much information, will keep searching.

Hi Kathleen, You can search for Andrew and Agnes's death certs. These would give you their parents names, provided they were known by the informant.  You can also search for married women under both married and maiden names, again, only if it was known by the informant.
