When I transcribed the Auld Kirkyard in Selkirk  I also included the large list from the wAR MEMORIAL IN sELKIRK covering both wars
The CD can be obtained from  www.bordersfhs.org.uk  priced £10 plus p and p.
The society also has a copy which I think included all those who survived as well as those who perished.
Hope that helps those living abroad who want copies.

Hi from Australia Worth,

I am trying to trace some info on my Great-Grandfather who died in France (1918) in WW1 as a Seaforth Highlander soldier (private), 9th Battalion. His name was John Hamilton and he was born in Selkirk. I was wondering if it is possible for you to have a look in your Roll of Honour Book from Selkirk and let me know if there are any details of family members (e.g. wife, kids, etc.) that may give me a start on looking for my family please.

Regards pegasus1053

I tried the Commonwealth War Graves Commision and found several for you. suggest you try it www.cwgc web site .If you put in 1917 j Hamilton you get a large list and I found entries 4,5,23 and 33 were j hamiltons privates .When you click on the entry you can get certificates and details.
If you know he was born selkirk have you got a date? Birth certs give parents details.

On the SNWM there is only one candidate for John Hamilton, Seaforth Highlanders:

Surname HAMILTON
Firstname John
Service Number 201146
Date Death 19/09/1917
Decoration M.M.
Place of birth
Other - 21-09-17. 4th Bn.
SNWM roll THE SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS
Rank Pte
Theatre of death F.& F.

There is another John Hamilton, Seaforth Highlanders but he was born in Larbert and died 1918. So Pte 201146 looks like your man.

Ive scrapped my ancestry sub so I cant look up for his medal card/ service records (hopefully hes with the 'H' surnames now online) Fingers crossed.
