Small child missing from family during census?
« on: Tuesday 20 September 05 21:22 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Whilst tracing the family i noticed that one child that was born about 1858/9 doesn't appear with the family in the 1861 census, i know i have the right family as all the other children are there, he appears with the family in the 1871 census but at aged 3 in 1861 where could he be?

I know he was born between two brothers in 1855 and 1859/60 and was aged 12 in 1871.

I have searched for him in the whole of England during 1861 but there aren't any matches.

Does anyone have any ideas to where he might have been?

Probably with relatives - possibly "boarding" with another family - perhaps in hospital...

Presumably badly transcribed, or lurking under a false name!

Why not post his details, and we'll all have a look?

HI
AS you have searched the whole census I suppose it isn't possible he was staying with other relatives, maybe grandparents?
My g grandmother had her half sister staying in 1881 and she was down just as a visitor and a gg aunt put herself down twice once with her parents and again at her own house.
It is possible aswell that the name was transcribed incorrectly is there a possiblity of variations on the name???

I have tried all posibilities that i can think of, i have tried just putting in first name, last name and an approximate year in case the birthplace was wrong.

The child in question in Charles Watts, the 1871 census says he was born in Bethnal Green, London as were the rest of the family.

In 1861 his family were living at 113 Church Street, Bethnal Green.
His parents were John Watts and Mary Ann Watts.
Siblings in 1861 were Mary Ann 21, Emily 19, William 18, Alfred 11, Harriett 10, Edward 8, Frederick 6 and Walter 2. Charles was born between Frederick and Walter.

There was also a James born between William and Alfred in 1845 but i think he must have died as i can't find him in 1861 or 1871.

If anyone can shed some light then it would be appreciated
