I have been Googling for a long time
I googled my ancestor Joshua Joyce in Google Books and up came some history of Godalming - the book was only snipped view, but I managed to get a copy father and son bioth called Joshua Joyce wereboth Warden (like a mayor) of GOdalming . Also I have three watchmakers called James Douglass who were watchmakers - their clocks and watches often come up for sale. I have had permission of many vendors to re-use their images on my website.

The information is increasingly out there - get Gooling!

Don't forget apart from the fun side of 'googling' It is how I found I had relatives in Australia and the US, and my family increased overnight and seems to be increasing every day

Downside of course are the long flights back home - going is exciting.

I have looked for my 'googleganger' before with some interesting rsults.

including
An ancestor who emigrated to the USA and did well.
A Jesuit priest
 A corporate lawyer
A dealer in antiques
 and myself
from a letter I wrote to a newspaper 10 years ago!

Typing in my surname has brought me into contact with 2 distant cousins

one of the family surnames is 'Guy'

 type that in and you get er sites for 'men meeting men'

I Googled my grandmother's maiden name and came across a site where I found a complete life story written by the son of my grandmother's brother (now deceased) which contained fascinating details about his life and times in Greenwich, London in the early 20th century.  As well as his wife and child, it also contained photographs of a couple of great-aunts which I didn't have pictures of.

Don't just limit your search to Google.  There are other great search engines which may show different hits - try:

www.alltheweb.com

You can't limit results to the UK, nor can they be cached but you may find something new.
