Basquill castlebar
« on: Sunday 25 September 05 19:09 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out about Patrick Basquill born in 1844 in Castlebar. I have been told, but can find no evidence, that his father was  Patrick James Basquill b 1814 also in Castlebar.
Patrick b 1844 appears in the 1871 census in Stockport Cheshire married to Mary Giles also from Ireland.

If anyone has information that could help I would be really grateful

Hi Tillymint,
Why not try the Griffith Valuation Tables for Mayo. They only  list the head of the family as they were for tax purposes.
You will need the townland for your Basquill.
These tables were constucted around 1855.

Tillymint:
I did a quick Google and came up with this. Could be your Patrick's son!

 34th Foot Depot Roll
49    Private    Basquill    Michael    Enlisted    Chorley    25 January 1873        b. Stockport, Cheshire. Aged 18 & 6m

From http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mcging/history.html
whic seems to be quoting Slater's 1846 there is a  Patrick Basquill, flour dealer, Shop Street in Westport. Might be your Patrick's father.

Hope this is of some help.
Good Luck!

Have done the Griffiths evaluation and found a Patrick Basquill in Kilbride also a Catherine Basquill living across the road from him. Not sure where to go from here though.

Thanks for the link about the flour dealer too, can't be too many Patick Basquills about at that time, so could be the one

I will look into the soldier, that could be useful, though there seems to have been quite a few Basquill families turning up in Stockport at the same time

Hi, all the Basquills and Basquille’s currently in Castlebar are  related, maybe if you contacted the local paper there they could assist? They are my husbands side of the family which is how I know they are all connected. Good luck, D Basquille

Hello, DBUK. Welcome to RootsChat. Tillymint hasn't been on the forum for about 10 years. Click on tillymint's name will take you to her (?) profile. Her posts include one on a thread about the Hawkshaw and Greevy families in Mayo. Hawkshaw was also researching the Basquil family. Hawkshaw has been on the forum more recently.
Did you mean to put "maybe if you contacted the local paper there" instead of "the loaf already there". If you want to change it click "modify" at top of post.

Hi
Thanks for taking the time to contact me, it has been a long time since I was on here :)
I have been a bit busy, but plan on spending some time on this in the summer. I will look into the newspaper,  I had not thought of it.

Kindest
