1841 Census Look Up please Sussex (Frant) - Davey
« on: Monday 26 September 05 20:17 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I wonder if anyone could look for a Hamilton or Lucy Davey living in Frant in 1841 please. There is a cryptic mention in one of the enumeration districts for frant in 1851 which mentions the "late Hamilton Daveys".
I believe that Hamilton is the father of George Hamilton Davey born 1806 who settled in Eastbourne. (he is in Eastbourne in 1841).

Thanks
Michelle

Thanks Diane

This really helps with my research - I have recently linked George Hamilton Davey, my ancestor with Hamilton Davey and Frant but not Lucy, as far as I am aware Hamilton and Lucy married in 1816, 10 years after George was born. A Hamilton Davie born Speldhurst, Kent joined the army in 1807, just after George was born in 1806 and was discharged from the army in 1814. These details sort of pull together especially as Hamilton and Lucy were married in Speldhurst. Also George Hamilton Davey's first child was born in Speldhurst in 1830. I know that George's father was Hamilton Davey as he put Hamiltons name on the marriage certificate when George married again in 1876 aged 70!

Anyway thanks again for looking that up for me. I wonder do you have any idea where/what Golden Castle is/was in Frant?

Take care
Michelle

... and it sits on the edge of Five Hundred Acre Wood which was "borrowed" by A A Milne and known in the Winnie the Pooh books as "Hundred Acre Wood"  ;D

Thanks for that Dave

I suppose that I have been guilty of thinking of Frant as a place when really I should have been thinking about Frant as a parish. Which was why I was looking in the wrong place for Golden Castle!

It sounds idyllic to live in the Golden Castle area next to the hundred acre wood - but I bet it wasn't!

Take care
