William Bridger
« on: Tuesday 27 September 05 19:57 BST (UK) »
Dear all,

I'm looking for a birth and passed away year from William Bridger, he lived in 1855 at Guildford, as he wrote an article from there in the Naturalist on 12 October 1855. Does any-one have any details from him?
I would be gratefull to you!

Kind regards,

Justin Jansen

Hi Justin

I've had a look at the 1861 census for Guildford and found a William Bridger at 133 High Street. He was a solicitor aged 29 and born in Finsbury, Middx.

Hope this helps.

Hi Justin

Sorry no initials, but the enumerator has written Wm. Bridger (an abbreviation of William). Maybe this is how his name appeared in The Naturalist.

Is he an ancestor of yours? I have BRIDGERs in my tree but they came from Frensham and Godalming in Surrey.

Did some-one has an idea what the precise birthday and day of death is of him. And if he had a family and so on? It is no family by the way of mine. But I use this and all the other material where I requested for, for a project.

Cheers, Justin

Dear all,

This is not a family quest, but a lost collector of birds.

Does some-one have an idea about this gentleman William Bridger, I checked various sources but I still can't get any grip on this man. Except that he was born in Finsburry around 1823 and lived around 1855 at Guildford. Any-one more ideas?

I would be gratefull.

Bridger is a very common name - there are lots in Sussex, they crop up several times in my Edmonds tree and there are loads of themaround the villages on the Sussex coast.

But, back to your William.
If he was 29 in 1861 he was born about 1832, which is before civil registration, so you are talking Parish registers for his birth.

For his death we would need to narrow down the dates a bit before having any chance of finding him. So far, just know he was alive in 1861.

So - i think next step is to ask for a look up for him on 1871, 91, 1901 censuses (you can check 1881 yourself as it is free to all) to establish if he is still alive in his 30's, 40's and 50's, and to see what part of th ecountry he is in throughout his life.
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex
